A few important dates

According to the timeline that Doug sent me, here are two particularly important dates for me:

In mid-May, I will receive placement notification. That is, I will be told where they will be sending me. At this point, I have no way of knowing whether I'll be in a big city or the back woods, or what area of the country my placement will be in. I'm hoping it will be in the city, but I am happy to be able to live anywhere in Japan, and I am ready and willing to make the best of my placement, no matter where it will be.

On July 24th, I will be departing from Japan along with other JETs who interviewed in Chicago.

By the way, I remember another question that I was asked in my interview but forgot to talk about in my first entry. One of them (I forget which one, though) asked me if I could teach students about any period of American history, what would it be. I told them that I would teach them about the civil rights struggle of the 1960s.

That's all for now.

Re: JET Program Notification

Dear Applicant:

Congratulations! It is our great pleasure to inform you that you have successfully passed the second stage of the screening process for the year 2004 JET Program. You are now on the Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) candidate short-list and are scheduled for placement in a Contracting Organization. Once you are placed with a Contracting Organization (school or Board of Education) you will become a full-status JET participant. (Barring unusual circumstances, virtually all short-list candidates are placed in Japan.)

The preceeding was an excerpt from one of the .doc files that was sent to me today by Douglas Bell from Chicago's Japan Information Center. I'll post more info in the next few days.
